To Those Who Shine

Apologies for the delay in posting about the trip to Kota Kinabalu. Those who laid their eyes on the East malaysian state for the first time could be forgiven for wondering how this dilapidated town can be safer than Malacca and Kuala Lumpur. Truth is it is, and it is a place with absolute awesomeness.

Day One: Lucas Lim's father always satisfies my hunger for speed in his Toyota Wish, ultimate imbar power. 4 years after I set foot again in Terminal 1. For once i thought I was still in Bali or Cambodia when I saw how old the place was. It was the 1st time I took a budget airline and I'm surprised at how good Jetstar Asia is.

The cabbies there are real scam, but sadly you don't have a choice. The Grand borneo hotel proves to be our first major nightmare. Though highly rated with boutique rooms, our rooms flooded when it rained that evening. You mean rain in your room? Well yeah =)

Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park. We faked ourselves as Malaysian students so we could get discounts. Thanks to our boat agency, we were forced to stay on a beach for 3 hrs. The clear water with fishes is probably the only good stuff on that island. The speedboat is a mean bitch, 90km/hr. Feels cool.

Hotel Bar. I swear the lady at the counter will miss us. The first time i tried GIN, good taste. But the moment Daniel Tang ordered GIN coke I almost puked.

Day Two: Daniel Tang told me to buy slippers in a mall, which i did, only to realize the Sunday market is 5 times cheaper. Doesn't matter cos i finally got a pair of illegally replicated sunglasses by Ferrari. Had lunch at 5-star chicken rice, which tasted awful compared to Singapore (I'm surprised). Went to Green Connection aquarium+zoo+science center. Very dilapidated but cool. Again we fooled them into believing that we are malaysians, got another discount ^O^

I swear the swimming pool at our hotel is the coldest I've been to, probably only 18 degrees. None of the others stayed past 3min in the pool except us. The towel man is a real pain, which is why he won't even let us bring up the hotel room.

Day Three: My first time in a World War 2 era train, feels damn nostalgic. The Padas river rafting is a must if any of you were to go KK next time.

Day Four: Snorkelling, if you see me tanned, you know why

Day Five: Mount Kinabalu park is a real scammer. we were preparing to say some malay to convince the toll that we are malaysian students for a 2RM ticket. But our face turned black when our driver went up and introduce us as Singaporeans. First time in a 80km/hr car driving in a deep dusk fog, exciting.

My first Profits

I never thought ebay was such a good platform to earn money. Ever wonder how you can buy goods from ebay at an incredibly low price? Haha I found it!

1st step: secure your target, preferably a brand new item up for bid.

2nd step: create a "fake" item, same descriptions but the starting bid price is $0.99. Make sure you match his/or item duration.

3rd step: bid on your targeted item and wait.

4th step: ask you friend or create another account to bid back your item last minute, make sure no other person wins the bid or you'll be in trouble.

5th step: 99% you'll win your item.

Why? simple maths. The item you're targeting worths $50 starts bid at $10. You create a fake account and most likely, people will be attracted to your ad. Placing a bid for your targeted item at $30 will cause people to be detered(ebay rejects bids lower than the one you offered). Thus, people will only bid at your ad until it reaches $30 when they realize the "real" item is cheaper. However, most of the case, the bid has ended.

Back from Shanghai

I'm back from shanghai expo, have to say that the Expo is good but not the people. Throughout the 3 days I've seen magnificent structures, beautiful pavillions but disappointed by the visitors. 500k daily, thats what the officials said but what it seems to me was that 490k are chinese who are partially well, not very much educated in terms of moral values. You can pretty much see queue cutting very often and most of the time, I find myself trapped in a group of "Aunties" who created noise. On the whole, I still feel Expo is a job well done......correction, relatively good job done.

Besides the Chinese, Saudi Arabian, Japanese, Korean, German, Taiwan, Indian pavillions, I practically went to all others. Cool right? No, its time wasting and some of these pavillions are lacking contents and decorations.

Australian pavillion is by far one of the best I've seen. It has this super cool 360 degrees rotating screens with a center stage that shows different sculptures changing during the show without us knowing.

Tips on writing a good GP essay

We know the basic structure of PEEL; Point, elaborate, example, link back. But why are we still having low marks? I think I finally got it. GP essay, a typical platform to construct an effective argument that shows maturity and insightfulness. However, many people fail to realize that the problem lies with the misunderstanding of PEEL. It is not enough.

PEEL is the correct method to use, but weighing is also needed, and that can only be effectively achieved through the double PEEL. Teachers say must use PEEL but never say cannot use 2 PEEL in one paragraph. Content should be no problem for most of the students, but it is the structure that often kills one.
